Ted Cruz just made his move and the liberals are howling with rage. Cruz is suing the Federal government and if he wins it will have far-reaching consequences for every election.
Ted was in the fight of his political career with a very well funded Beto last election and had to dip into personal funds to fight to the end. And he wants to get that money back via fundraising. From The Hill:
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) sued the Federal Election Commission (FEC) Monday over rules that cap how much money he can reimburse himself for his 2018 reelection race against former Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-Texas). Cruz is challenging a section of the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act that says campaigns cannot use more than $250,000 in funds raised after an election to repay a candidate for personal loans to their campaign. In the lawsuit, first reported by BuzzFeed News, the Texas lawmaker says he put $260,000 of his own money into his successful reelection campaign, above the $250,000 limit. Cruz argues that the restrictions violate the First Amendment by undercutting the rights of candidates and donors to express themselves by financing political speech. “The First Amendment commands that ‘Congress shall make no law . . . abridging the freedom of speech.’ This bedrock liberty was designed to ensure the full and free political debate that is the hallmark of our democratic form of government,” the lawsuit says. “At its core, it protects the rights of citizens to engage in political speech.” Cruz cites Supreme Court decisions striking down laws that limit the amount of money flowing into the political arena, including Citizens United v. FEC and Davis v. FEC, to argue precedent for his case. The FEC did not immediately responded to a request for comment on the lawsuit from The Hill. A spokesperson for Cruz’s 2018 Senate campaign told The Hill that they support the lawsuit. “To ensure a vigorous democratic process, Congress cannot pass laws designed to entrench career politicians at the expense of the First Amendment,” Catherine Frazier said in a statement.
It’s a good thing that disgraced Hollywood actor Jussie Smollett ungraciously chose to skip the NAACP’s Image Awards Dinner on Friday despite being nominated for an award, because legendary comedian Chris Rock wasn’t about to let a good opportunity go to waste.
While briefly on stage during the dinner to present one of the awards, Rock tore into the disgraced Hollywood actor like a tornado, mocking him for his shameful behavior. And the comedian did so in defiance of the NAACP, which he said had demanded that he leave Smollett alone.
“They said ‘No Jussie Smollett jokes,’” Rock announced as he arrived at the microphone. “What a waste of light skin. Do you know what I could do with that light skin? That curly hair? My career would be out of here! I’d be running Hollywood.”
The joke was based on the longtime, mostly fun-spirited beef between “light-skinned” and “dark-skinned” blacks. The premise of the beef is that “light-skinned” blacks have more so-called privilege.
It was then that Rock dropped the zinger of the night.
“What the hell was he thinking?” he said. “From now on you’re ‘Jessie.’ You don’t get the ‘u’ no more. That ‘u’ was respect. You ain’t getting no respect from me!”
Preach.
If only the NAACP felt the same way. Even after Smollett was indicted earlier this month for faking a hate crime, the 110-year-old “colored people” organization kept him in its nomination lineup. This provoked backlash from those who believe the actor’s actions hurt the black community.
“After Jussie Smollett’s indictment on felony charges for lying to law enforcement about an alleged hate crime, members of the Project 21 black leadership network are asking the NAACP to rescind Smollett’s nomination for an upcoming Image Award,” the black public policy group Project 21 announced in a statement after the actor’s indictment in mid-march.
“Everyone has a reason to be disappointed with Jussie Smollett right now, and these accumulated reasons justify the NAACP taking swift and appropriate action to remove him from consideration for its Image Award,” Project 21 Co-Chairman Council Nedd II said at the time.
“Smollett is charged with perpetrating a hate crime hoax that wasted valuable police resources and stoked racial tensions nationwide. It hurt our nation’s ability to heal its racial wounds and made the NAACP’s civil rights goals harder to achieve. The NAACP needs to make it clear that his behavior is not OK by removing him from contention for an Image Award.”
“After prosecutors dropped charges against actor Jussie Smollett in the case of an alleged Chicago hate crime hoax, members of the Project 21 black leadership network are condemning the situation as a crass display of ‘celebrity privilege‘ harmful to both race relations and the reputation of the law enforcement community. Project 21 continues to maintain that the NAACP should drop its nomination of Smollett for an honor at its upcoming Image Awards ceremony.”
The NAACP apparently disagrees. It’s unclear why the organization continues to defend Smollett, or why it demanded that Rock refrain from making any jokes about him.
At this point his guilt is as clear as day. Even the prosecutors who dropped the charges against the disgraced Hollywood actor last week have admitted that he’s most likely guilty.
“I do not believe he is innocent,” First Assistant Cook County State’s Attorney Joseph Magats, told CBS News in an interview last Tuesday, adding that, “yes,” he believes Smollett’s guilty. “Our priority is violent crimes and the drivers of violence. Jussie Smollett is neither one of those.”
And because the NAACP is refusing to stand up to Smollett, folks are now taking shots at it.
“Shame on you @naacp you had more then enough time to separate yourself from this blasphemy you call @jussiesmollett! This is yet another example of who sick we are as a community to even consider recognizing this person for an award!” one social media user wrote.
“Like Jessie Smollett I hope the real black peoples wake up and realize what this new NAAGP is all about and stop supporting you! A Republican woman from the Bronx district that Democrat Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez represents is so fed-up with AOC’s ignorance and destructive policies that she’s running to unseat her in the 2020 election.
Ruth Papazian, a lifelong Bronx resident, is a medical journalist and the daughter of Egyptian immigrants. She has referred to Congresswoman Ocasio-Corte — a self-declared socialist — as the “Bronx Bolshevik.”

Papazian told Fox News that AOC’s showboating antics to drive Amazon out of Queens — a district AOC does not represent — was the last straw.
“Just looking at the Amazon situation. She parachuted into a congressional district she doesn’t even represent and led the parade of grandstanding politicians to tank the deal.
Instead of fighting to keep Amazon out of Queens, she should have been fighting to bring Amazon to the Bronx. She should have been fighting to bring all those warehousing jobs to the Bronx!”
‘An Empty Vessel with a Really Loud Mouth’
Papazian slammed AOC’s widely-panned Green New Deal as an expensive, unrealistic “jobs killer.” She said she wants to unseat the former bartender even though she’s aware that the Bronx is overwhelmingly Democrat.
Papazian says there are many clandestine “Reagan Democrats” in Bronx and neighboring Queens, and that many Republicans “secretly” register as Democrats.
Bronx resident Mike Volpe says he will vote for anyone who challenges Ocasio Cortez, because he can’t stand her cluelessness.
“You don’t even have to tell me [Ruth Papazian’s] name — she already has my vote,’’ Volpe told the New York Post. “Will she lose with or without my vote? Probably. But you never know. I think a lot of people are starting to realize that [Ocasio-Cortez] is an empty vessel with a really loud mouth.”
Luana Malavolta, a Republican in Queens, agrees. “I think [AOC] is just a dumb kid who answered a casting call.”

President Trump has halted all foreign assistance going to El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras … the Northern Triangle countries. A majority of illegal migrants originate from the area.
Late on Friday, President Trump said that those countries “set up” migrant caravans.
We were paying them tremendous amounts of money. And we’re not paying them anymore. Because they haven’t done a thing for us. They set up these caravans,” Trump said, according to CNN reports.
A State Department spokesman provided a statement to The Hill on Saturday that the agency was ordered by the President to halt aid to the Northern Triangle nations. “At the Secretary’s instruction, we are carrying out the President’s direction and ending FY 2017 and FY 2018 foreign assistance programs for the Northern Triangle,” the statement said. “We will be engaging Congress as part of this process.”
According to Trump, the allocated funds had totaled $500 million, though the accuracy of that number is in question. In December, an announcement by the State Department indicated $5.8 billion in public and private American investment was being mobilized in the three countries.
The financial assistance to the Northern Triangle has previously been characterized as important in the effort to slow or stop the growing flow of illegals through Mexico to the southern U.S. border.
It seems that the timing of the President’s decision is tied to the reported “mother of all caravans” being organized this weekend in El Salvador, which some organizers say could reach a total of 20,000 migrants.
The move is an abrupt pivot in policy. Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen was in Mexico and Honduras earlier in the week meeting with leaders to sign new partnership agreements. Pompeo testified before the House of Representatives on Wednesday, saying the president had instructed him and Nielsen to use U.S. funding to “develop a set of programs that reward effective outcomes, that reward good leadership, that get us to a place where we actually achieve the outcomes.”
Interestingly, Democrat Sen. Bob Menendez of New Jersey, the top Democrat on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, released a statement criticizing the move. The irony in his comments as compared with the left’s position on the situation at the U.S. border is obviously lost on him.
“If carried out, President Trump’s irresponsible decision to cut off our assistance to El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras would undermine American interests and put our national security at risk,” he said.
“U.S. foreign assistance is not charity; it advances our strategic interests and funds initiatives that protect American citizens. This latest reported move shows the Administration still does not understand that the United States cuts foreign aid to Central America at our own peril,” he added.
The President has also said in the last several days that he may very well shut down the southern border, as Mexico has been unable or unwilling to stop the flow of people through its country to the U.S.
“If they don’t stop it we will keep the border closed. And we will keep it stopped for a long time. I’m not playing games,” Trump said.
Donald’s wall is coming whether Democrats want it or not, and he’s got the perfect present for them.
Trump is getting sick and tired of Pelosi and Schumer trying to stop the border wall.
So are the rest of us, right?
So Donald is sending Democrats a little gift to get the wall started.

“Republicans believe that the FBI and [Department of Justice] — the top people — took the law in their own hands because they wanted [Hillary] Clinton to win and Trump to lose,” Republican Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina explained during an interview with Fox News host Neil Cavuto.
Graham explained that they will be looking into Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) application process “abuse” as well as the “counterintelligence operation into Trump’s campaign,” then stating that “there will be a lot of inquiry as to how this all happened.”

“The Judiciary Committee has primary jurisdiction and doing oversight of the Department of Justice and the FBI, and so that … is something we need to do. Trying to find out how this thing got off the rails and hopefully prevent it from happening again,” stated Senator John Cornyn, a Texas Republican and standing member of the Judiciary Committee.
Cornyn mentioned multiple Obama-era officials that he was hoping to talk to. Those officials included Loretta Lynch, former CIA Director John Brennan, as well as former FBI officials/former lovers Peter Strzok and Lisa Page. He specifically mentioned James Comey, as well.
“I think Director Comey is probably near the top. He’s the one who said that his intention of leaking memos of his conversation was designed to prompt the appointment of a special counsel. It just strikes me as some vindictiveness and animus toward the president motivating a lot of the action,” Cornyn stated.

Graham, who earlier this month teased that he wants to bring in Comey, added that the former official would be called to publicly testify and “will answer for your time as FBI director.”
Comey has been a years-long source of ire for Trump, who fired the FBI director in May 2017. The White House initially cited a Justice Department memo criticizing Comey’s handling of the investigation into Clinton’s private email server as the reason for his unusual firing, but Trump told NBC News days later that he was thinking about “the Russia thing” when he decided to fire Comey.
Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), an ally of Trump, also wants a laundry list of former Obama officials’ communications to be made public, including any communications from former President Obama about an investigation into the Trump campaign. Paul is also calling on Brennan and former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper to testify under oath.
Rand Paul stated, “We need every ounce of information about the people at the very top of our intelligence community that were promoting the inclusion of this fake dossier. We based this investigation on a lie. We should investigate who the liars were.”
