On Thursday, First Lady Melania Trump spent her Valentine’s Day at the Children’s Inn at the National Institutes of Health where she visited a number of young patients as well as their siblings.
She spent the afternoon doing various arts and crafts activities with the children. She made Valentine’s Day cards, handed out gifts, and received hugs and hand-made gifts from everyone. One young boy, 13-year-old Amani from Kenya stood up beside the First Lady and handed her a red jewelry box which housed a beautiful necklace with a circular silver pendant.
Amani is diagnosed with sickle cell disease and is currently preparing for a bone marrow transplant which he told the First Lady will happen in early March. Amani has a bracelet to match the necklace he gave the first lady, according to Trump’s communications director.
The necklace he gave to Melanie was inscribed with “faith” and “hope” which Amani said represented the faith and hope that his family held onto as he awaited his upcoming transplant.
Melania was left speechless by the gift. Her expression is one of complete gratitude for this young boy. She assures him that he “will do well because [he is] strong.” She then holds the necklace tight in her hands and offers some words of prayer to the boy.
“Thank you so much for the gift. I will think of you and pray for you. Thank you, Amani. Thank you so much.”
God bless this young man and our loving First Lady. Melania has made an impact on the lives of so many young children. We are truly blessed with a compassionate First Lady.
